away the cables and receivers and control everything from behind closed cabinets and doors, also you can After what seemed like an eternity, I finally was able to get my hands on my new Sofabaton X1, set it up and give it a real test to see how it fared against my beloved Harmony Ultimate. Will it be the new “must-have” remote? Let’s discuss! What’s In The Box? The X1 controls my Sheild Pro flawlessly. I have no issues with that. What BT device are you trying to control. The instructions are the weakest piece here, and I am being generous. The instructions focus heavily on pairing the hub/remote and setting up the devices and activities. However, the instructions do not speak to the proper placement of the hub for correct use or how to connect and place IR blasters.

via IR learning Mode meanwhile, and you could scroll wheel to easy switch between 4 Bluetooth devices atWe’ve now upgraded to IPTV (Rogers in Ontario, Canada) and the Harmony hub refuses to recognize the Xi6-T remote. Anyone with experience using the Softbaton with an Xi6-T? I have vowed to use only the Sofabaton X1 for the next month so that I can give it a test. So far, I like it. Once I had the Activities set up correctly, no issues arose. Devices started, and inputs switched correctly. I know that some people hate the fact that you have to wake the remote with a button press, but for me, I find that scrolling the wheel is an intuitive motion, so it’s a non-starter for me. I didn’t have any issues with commands not being transmitted, and I haven’t noticed any significant lag from button press to device action. And early indications tell me I will probably get well over a month on a single charge with my use. We have added MD5define field to make the upgrade under iOS version to be stable(Now can not support Android Online); Mmm, not quite sure how Jouster, without opening numerous apps and pressing numerous buttons in succession, unless you have a TV and a single source plugged into it directly? I know you used to be a massive advocate for the Harmony which was far more expensive, so what’s changed?

codes etc. There is a bit of a learning curve and set up can be intimidating if you are new to these Lastly, I wish you could just hide the Devices menu option entirely. If you’re setting this up for someone else, they really need to only ever use Activities. But a lot of people still only think in terms of the old “universal remotes”, where you just chose one Device at a time. If they do that with the X1, it’s just going to get your Activities all out of sync. And like I’ve just described, that “Fix” function is a nightmare.Lastly, the remote is tough. I recently got a new puppy, and he has had my Sofabaton X1 in his mouth several times with nary a scratch. So I can confirm that the finish on the remote is tough as nails. Our Take: Part Two If they're not in the lists, you can manually learning the remote functions to the system via the hub. But I really don’t consider that a “Fix”. And it isn’t anywhere near as useful and intuitive as Harmony’s Help button. In fact, I’ll bet you’re super confused from what I just wrote! So…yeah…try teaching THAT to your mom – haha It is unclear if the TV is left on when switching from one activity to another (e.g., watching Chromecast to watching Roku). I also had to set whether the power command needed separate power on and off keys or a single key. If the device's commands are in a database, why should I have to set them? The database should be coded to know what buttons are used to change inputs.

The IR issues occurred with every IR device (e.g., Integra receiver, Sony TV). It is a deal-breaker and I returned the SofaBaton. Communication between the app and hub still does not work if you have 2.5ghz/5ghz networks with the same SSID.Updates are terribly delayed… One was just published this week, but Sofabaton has been promising “next week” for most of June. It’s fine if it takes some time, but their communication people have burned a lot of their credibility.

SofaBaton X1 Universal Remote with Hub and App, All in One

So the million-dollar question. Do I recommend the Sofabaton X1 as a worthy successor to Harmony? As I said before, yes. It is not as polished as the Elite. But this is Sofabaton’s SECOND remote control. That’s right, folks. They are probably 90%+ of the functionality of the Harmony Elite after their second remote. I expect that there with be a Sofabaton X2 or X1 (ver 2) that will give you a touch screen or some other enhancements. Plus, I am certain that they will get all the bugs worked out.Sofabaton is still very committed to the remote. One year later, we are up to Rev.13 on the Hub firmware, Rev.9 on the remote, and Ver 3.3.1 of the mobile app. That’s a lot of updates in one year. And their codebase is getting pretty expansive. I added some older gear to it, and it had the codes for it. The Sofabaton app allows you to share your codebase for learned commands. So effectively, the community is contributing to the whole codebase. I haven’t had to learn any commands yet, but if I do, I will share them with the community. The hub is also where you can teach the system to learn commands for devices not currently in the database. For example, when you need to “learn” a command, the Sofabaton will direct you to point the IR sensor of your device’s remote at the circular icon on the top of the hub and press the button for 3-5 seconds. I will be honest and say that I could not get this to work for me. I tried it with my LG B9 and my Pioneer Elite CD player and could not get either to register a command with the Sofabaton. There was hope that the Sofabaton X1 Hub and Remote could replace the now-discontinued Logitech Harmony Hub. Unfortunately, it doesn't hold a candle to Harmony's ease of use, compatibility, and design.
